Status Verification Guide

Who Qualifies for a Free iPhone?

Use this simple guide to understand if you meet the federal criteria for the Lifeline program.

Two Ways to Qualify

You typically only need to meet ONE of these two main requirements.

🏛️

Participation in Government Programs

This is the most common way people qualify. If you (or someone in your household) are already enrolled in one of these federal assistance programs, you likely qualify for Lifeline phone service:

  • SNAP (CalFresh/Food Stamps)
  • Medicaid (Medi-Cal)
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefit
💰

Income-Based Eligibility

Even if you don't use any of the programs listed, you can still qualify if your total household income is low enough.

The "135% Rule"

Your annual household income must be at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. This amount changes depending on how many people live in your home and which state you live in.

Quick Eligibility Checklist

Read through these statements. If you can say "Yes" to all of them, you are a great candidate.

?
Running a participation verification... Look at your EBT card or Medicaid letter. Do you have one valid right now?
?
Are you the only person in your household claiming this benefit? (Remember, husbands, wives, and children living together count as one household).
?
Do you have a valid ID (Driver's License, Passport, or State ID) ready to upload?

Did you answer YES? Then you are ready to find a provider.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many eligible people get rejected because of simple errors. Watch out for:

  • Name Mismatch: The name on your application MUST match your ID and benefit documents exactly.
  • Expired Documents: Ensure your ID and benefit letters are current and not expired.
  • Blurry Photos: When uploading proof, make sure the text is readable.

Have Your Documents Ready?
